Classroom Experience

Early Childhood Waldorf Education works with the growing capacities of your young child to cultivate a passion for learning. Early Childhood is a pay based curriculum with much attention placed on comprehension through story-telling; a pre-reading skill not often taught until 4th or 5th grade in some schools. Honoring childhood and the individual, Early Childhood strives to:

  • Provide a wholesome, nurturing environment and media-free culture encourages creative and intellectual growth
  • Provide beautiful, natural, play environment that supports regular physical activity
  • Prepares children for the academic and social challenges of grade school
  • Provides activities that include seasonally influenced baking, outdoor play, nature walks, watercolor painting, handwork, puppet plays, story time, singing, and cooperative and creative play.

Elementary and Middle School Waldorf Education provides a rich and diverse academic curriculum. With our small class sizes we are able spend more quality time on subjects and the business of learning. Leaning in a "block" style allows the student to delve deeply into the subject matter and develop a deeper understanding of topics at hand. Indepth studies of different cultures, both current and historical, allow the student to better understand, and have compassion for, human nature, cultural differences, and diversities. Make no mistake that although subject matter is often taught in an art infused manor, the curriculum itself is both rigorous and challenging. Artful teaching modalities allow a child to live with beauty, profound understanding of, and connections to various topics, as well as providing an avenue for expression that is not through written or spoken words. Such expression allows a person to think about the topic in a different way rather than simply writing down facts and dates. Some other general qualities about Waldorf Education:

  • Class learning style is fundamentally different, utilizing a main lesson block. This allows in-depth study in math, science, writing, and cultural studies. Students fully experience all academics in sensory, artistic and intellectual means.
  • Specialty classes are included in the curriculum. They include Spanish, physical education, handwork, woodworking and music such as singing, flute, percussion, and recorder. Stringed instruments are introduced in Fourth Grade.
  • Each grade integrates activities in community service, woodworking, singing, drama, gardening, and field trips into their daily studies.

Extended Day Care is conveniently available at the school, for Early Childhood and Grades children from when they are released from class until 5:30. Extended Day is structured to be an extension of the day for the students that utilize it. Different activities and structure are individualized for each age group.
